It’s tree planting time in Palestine, and we’re pleased to share that a record number of trees have been distributed over the past weeks.
At Zaytoun, we’ve received a record-breaking volume of donations towards tree planting; a remarkable expression of solidarity from so many of you who are committed to supporting farming and food security in Palestine. Thanks in great part to your generous support, the Palestine Fair Trade Association (PFTA) has been able to distribute over 50,000 diverse saplings to more than 800 farmers across 50 villages.
This exceptional outpouring of support comes as the PFTA reports soaring demand from farmers as communities grapple with increasing violence, mounting challenges and threats to their livelihoods – all of which have escalated significantly over the past 15 months.
While the vast majority of the saplings are olive trees, other varieties such as almond, fig, apricot and grape have also been distributed to help diversify and strengthen farmland.
In addition to tree saplings, the PFTA is advancing regenerative farming practices by distributing 9 tonnes of legume seeds, such as fava beans, peas, clover, and vetch. These legumes will be intercropped among olive trees, helping to improve soil quality and enhance overall tree productivity.
Some members of our team have been out in the fields, witnessing the tree distribution and planting firsthand. We’ll be following up soon with photos, videos, and a full report from the PFTA – so watch this space!
